Reinforcement of Values at Willow Primary School

Democracy
Democracy is a vital component of our school curriculum. We ensure that pupils' voices are valued and heard, teaching them to listen thoughtfully to one another. Opportunities for pupils to express their ideas and opinions are provided through pupil leadership meetings. Our elections for the Pupil Leadership Team, as well as the Head Boy and Head Girl, are conducted through pupil votes, mirroring the principles of the British electoral system and exemplifying democracy in practice.

The Rule of Law
The significance of laws that govern our classrooms, school, and country is consistently highlighted. Our 'ASPIRE Values' are integrated into our daily activities, and each class collaboratively establishes its own rules, fostering a safe and structured learning environment for all. Pupils learn about the importance of laws in protecting and guiding us, the responsibilities that come with them, and the implications of breaking them.

Individual Liberty
Our school encourages pupils to make choices within a secure and supportive atmosphere. We provide a framework that empowers students to exercise their rights and personal freedoms safely, as demonstrated in our e-safety and PSHE lessons. Whether it's selecting challenges, determining how to record their work, or participating in a variety of extracurricular activities, our pupils are given the freedom to make responsible choices and are encouraged to take initiative.

Mutual Respect
Respect is a foundational value that underpins our school ethos. Our behaviour policies are rooted in the Core ASPIRE Values, with pupils actively engaging in discussions and collective worship focused on the meaning of respect and its expression. This value is integrated into lessons and school activities, enabling students to contribute positively to their community. We communicate our values and initiatives with families through newsletters and our website, ensuring a shared understanding. Staff and older students model respectful behaviour, reinforcing it through classroom expectations and our broader behaviour framework.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Our commitment to the ASPIRE value of Respect fosters an atmosphere of tolerance for those with varying faiths and beliefs. At Willow Primary School, we enrich students' knowledge of diverse cultures through religious education, PSHE activities, and participation in celebrations like Diwali. We invite visitors from different backgrounds to share their experiences and engage students in themed weeks that explore global beliefs, traditions, and customs. These experiences deepen our pupils' appreciation of multiculturalism and the importance of tackling discrimination, preparing them for a diverse society.
