This half term Year 6 are studying Biomes.
Please complete one lesson per week.
Lesson One
What are the Earth's biomes?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the Earth’s six major biomes. We will learn about their specific climates and how these climates are impacted by their proximity to the equator and the amount of rainfall they receive.
Lesson Two
Where are the Earth's biomes?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about where the Earth’s six major biomes are located and how their position on the Earth impacts their climates. We conclude by considering the huge variation that exists within continents.
Lesson Three
What affects an ecosystem?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the climatic factors and human activities that impact biomes and the ecosystems within them.
Lesson Four
What is the tundra?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the climatic factors and location of the tundra. We will also learn about the flora and fauna that are present there.
Lesson Five
What is the taiga?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the climatic factors and location of the taiga. We will also learn about the flora and fauna that are present there.
Lesson Six
What are the grasslands?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the climatic factors and location of the grasslands. We will also learn about the flora and fauna that are present there.
Lesson Seven
How are biomes being damaged?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about global warming and climate change. We will learn about how climate change, predominantly caused by human activity, is putting the world’s biomes at risk.
Lesson Eight
How are biomes being protected and preserved?
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about conservation, both in relation to plants (flora) and animals (fauna). We will look specifically at the conservation of forests and conservation of corn buntings, a bird that lives in the United Kingdom. We will end the lesson by considering what you can do to support conservation in your local area.
Lesson Nine
Are biomes all equally fragile? (Part 1)
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the threats that the forest biomes across the globe are facing. We will learn about the outcomes or consequences of these threats on the biomes' flora and fauna, as well as the impact on us as humans. We will conclude the lesson by considering which of the three forest biomes is the most fragile and why.
Lesson Ten
Are biomes all equally fragile? (Part 2)
In this lesson, we are going to be learning about the threats that the tundra, grassland and desert biomes across the globe are facing. We will learn about the outcomes or consequences of these threats on the biomes’ flora and fauna, as well as the impact on us as humans. We will conclude the lesson by considering which of the three biomes is the most fragile and why.
