Welcome to Newts Class

Newts have made such a fabulous start to the new school year. The children have adapted really well to being in KS2. They are showing our school ASPIRE values and using our super learning powers to succeed in their learning.

Keep checking our class page to find out what we have been up to!

Communication with Mr Martin

Please use our class email to communicate with us. Please remember to write in the subject field Frogs or Newts so that the corresponding teacher can pick up the emails.

We love to read in Year 3. We do regular guided reading sessions each week where we look at a range of fiction and non-fiction texts that link to our topic work.

In order to support your child with their reading, please encourage your child to read at home every night. They should be bringing their reading book home from school every day. Please sign the reading record to say that you have listened to them read their school reading book five times.

Thank you

Autumn Topic - Prehistory

In Year 3, this half term, we are learning all about the prehistoric ages from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We had a fabulous visit to Murton Park, where we discovered a Stone Age settlement and spent the day learning how to live as a Stone Age person.

Our visit to Murton Park inspired us in our writing and in our sketching!

This term in English we will looking at the following texts:

Stone Age Boy – write an effective setting description using expanded noun phrases

Murton Park – write a recount using time conjunctions and paragraphs

DK Find Out! – Create a non-fiction book about Stone Age tools and homes using key features of a non-fiction text

This term in maths we will be looking at place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division. We will use maths equipment to support our learning as well as using formal written methods.

We will be focusing on learning our 3,4 and 8 times tables as well as recapping the 2s, 5s and 10s that were taught in previous years. We hold regular Times Table Rockstars battles that allow children to practise these at home.

Below is the link for the written activities that we will complete for the pupils that are learning from home.

This term we are looking at Forces including magnets, push, pull and the effect of gravity and friction.

We will also be learning about different rocks and spoils and looking at fossils.
