Our new reading area...

Mrs Garvey and Mrs Singh have been working hard over the summer to update the reading corner in the Year 2 shared area. We think the children will really enjoy using this area.  

Communication with Mrs Garvey

Please use our class email year2homelearning@willow.doncaster.sch.uk to communicate with us. Please remember to write in the subject field Kingfishers or Robins so that the corresponding teacher can pick up the emails. 

Name the fish competition.

We have two new members of Kingfishers and we need your help to name them. Please spend some time with your child thinking of a suitable name for our two fish. Send your suggestions to our home learning email. A prize will be given to the child who thinks of the best two names. Good Luck! 

Purple Mash 

 

I have set a range of to-do activities for the children to complete on Purple Mash. These activities will support the children with what we are currently learning in maths. The children should be able to log in using the same details as last year but please let me know if there are any problems with logging in. 

PE

We will be having PE every week on Monday's and Wednesday's. Please ensure your child has a full PE in school for both days. I would recommend getting them to bring it to school on Monday and then letting them keep it in school until the end of the week. 

Reading at home

Please encourage your child to read at home every night. They should be bringing their reading folder home every day from school. We will be changing their books once a week on a Monday so please ensure they have been signed to say that you have listened to them read their school reading book three times.

Say hello to Splish and Splash...

A very big well done to Amelia who suggested the names of Splish and Splash for our class fish. After a class vote these names were the most popular. Very well done to all of the other children, there were some fantastic name suggestions. 

Well done to these children who received certificates in our first ASPIRE Assembly.

We have been working really hard over the last three weeks on our first writing sequence - how to describe a character. Our key text was a Julia Donaldson book called The Princess and the Wizard which we really enjoyed reading. We have been learning about adjectives and nouns and how to use these in sentences. We decided to focus on the wizard and wrote our own character description. 

I am so proud of what the children have achieved in this writing sequence. I can see huge improvements already in their handwriting and resilience. Keep it up Kingfishers!

We have all had the best day together celebrating Halloween. 
I am really proud of what the children have achieved this half term and I am looking forward to seeing them after the holiday.

Maths Week - we have been doing lots of outdoor learning this week and have really enjoyed it.

Remembrance Day 2020

Today we celebrated Diwali and made beautiful diva lamps.

Children in need - thank you to everyone that donated.

Well done to these children who have been awarded certificates in this weeks ASPIRE assembly.

Poetry

The children have been writing poems in their most recent writing cycle. As we have been learning about the Gunpowder Plot in history we based the poems on bonfire night. The children have worked really hard on their poems and I am very proud of them.

Art

Look at our beautiful artwork! We have been working so hard over the last 4 weeks to create our own version of the Castles and the Sun artwork by Paul Klee. The children are really proud of them, as am I.
