Squirrels and Rabbits Classes

It has been great to welcome the new Squirrels and Rabbits this year and we have been so impressed with how well they have settled into life in Year One, even with all the changes this year brings, and welcomed new children to our school.

Please keep checking back on this page to find out more about what we have been doing in school and remember you can get in touch with Mrs Ostle and Mrs Cullen using the email below:

Every day we have a phonics session using Read Write Inc. Please help your child to identify sounds in words and read their books as well as writing simple sentences where they write the sounds they hear in words.

Our Learning this term

In Autumn we are focusing our learning on 'Transport'.

We will think about what we know about transport and what we want to find out about during the term before we start our learning.

In art we will be creating our own artwork, sharing our ideas for drawing a train before moving on to looking at the train painted by Kandinsky in his artwork 'Murnau, Castle and Train'. Our final artwork piece will be our own re-creation of this artwork.  Our D&T focus will have an outcome of a moving vehicle, which we will then evaluate.

Our geography work will be about the continents and oceans, starting with recognising the difference between land and water and how we travel in the different places. We are naming the different continents, recognising them on a map and identifying them on our own map, then extending to naming the oceans in the same ways as the continents. We are using key words like 'land', 'sea', 'ocean', 'coast'

We will be looking at the history of road vehicles, ordering vehicles from oldest to newest, and discussing what has stayed the same and what has changed. From this we will look at some historical figures relating to transport.

Our science work this term is about 'materials' - recognising the different materials objects are made from and how they feel.
